st mary's
lindo wing
The Lindo Wing is a private healthcare facility at St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington. We were employed as Architects and Lead Consultant for the extensive refurbishment of the lower ground to fourth floors, including reconfiguration of the existing layout to create three state of the art theatres (including a laminar flow and OR1 theatre suite), plus inpatient, day patient and staff facilities.
Our aim was to provide an increased level of comfort for obstetrics and general surgery private patients, incorporating modern technology with hotel style patient services and accommodation. The simple and elegant décor of the bedrooms was selected to create a clean, classic, modern hotel feel whilst ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness to satisfy infection control requirements.

maternity
Whipps Cross Hospital employed FAP as Architects and Lead Consultants on this £2.4m scheme to provide an extension to the existing maternity building comprising two new theatres, an Early Gynaecological Assessment Unit (EGAU) and dedicated Bereavement Suite. The new extension is positioned between the existing Maternity and Out-Patients Department to provide a much required internal access route to additional theatre accommodation.
The new replacement theatre suite provides a working environment which meets current healthcare standards in lieu of the below par theatres previously used.
User discussion took place from project conception to ensure end user needs were being met whilst still meeting the client brief.

chemotherapy day unit
This project comprised the reconfiguration and refurbishment of an existing Chemotherapy Day Unit on part of the 6th Floor East Wing at Charing Cross Hospital. Although the immediate work area was closed off for the duration of the contract the surrounding areas including the floors above and below were still fully operational.
During the course of the works, the structural nature of the building and existing drainage led to changes which involved redesigning various drainage elements as conflicts arose.
Despite this the Contract was completed on time and within budget. The key to the success of this project was regular and frequent meetings on site, plus good co-ordination and team working between the Design Team, Hospital Staff and the Contractors.

fracture clinic
The fracture clinic at St Mary’s Hospital, used for the assessment, X-ray diagnosis, & treatment of out-patients, had to be relocated due to ongoing development in other parts of the hospital. The new Fracture Clinic required a designated new entrance for the sole use of the Clinic’s patients providing a DDA compliant means of access & egress. Salton
House is in the Bayswater Conservation Area and therefore design and treatment of the entrance had to be in keeping with and reflect the materials of the existing building for planning considerations.
Alongside this project FAP refurbished the upper three floors of Salton House to provide Trust offices and admin facilities.
